If you are a fan of the Skylanders franchise then you are going to absolutely love all of the new characters introduced in Skylanders Swap Force (aka Skylanders 3).
Skylanders Swap Force – A Brief Introduction
Like the previous games, Swap Force will introduce a whole new storyline for us to enjoy as well as a bunch of new figures. While it is certainly true that Swap Force will stay true to what this franchise represents, it truly is a whole new world.
Perhaps the biggest change from Skylanders Giants is the introduction of 16 new Swap Force Skylanders characters. These figures actually split in the middle; the top half controls their attacking abilities while the bottom half controls the way they move around in the game. What’s more, you can actually mix and match them however you see fit in order to use a particular character’s powers to their best ability.
Doing the math, with 16 all new Swap Force characters, you will actually have 256 possible character combinations to choose from (assuming you buy them all). In addition to these figures, there will also be 16 new core Skylanders, 8 new Lightcore Skylanders, and 16 returning series 3 characters which represent your favorite characters from the first two games.
With all the figures that will be available you may actually think that it will be different telling them apart. You should note, however, that the new Swap Force figures will have a blue colored base whereas Skylanders Giants figures had an orange base and Spyro’s Adventure had a green base.
New Portal of Power Required
Perhaps the biggest disappointment so far is that you will be required to buy the Skylanders Swap Force starter pack in order to get started. Of course, seeing as how the technology used in this game is far superior to those in the past I am not really sure how Activision Publishing could have had it any other way.
Despite this minor inconvenience, this new portal or power is pretty amazing. In addition to having a sleek new design, it actually recognizes the look, feel, character names, and perhaps most importantly, the powers associated your Skylanders figures.
That’s right, you can actually use all of your figures on this portal and in the game. I am pretty pumped about the possibility of a new Swap Force Wham Shell but at least I know for sure that I can use him in the new game. What’s more, your figures will come into the game already powered up to whatever levels you achieved in the first two games.
Skylanders Swap Force All New Characters
So far, we have been introduced to three of the new Swap Force characters. As I more, I will be sure to come back and continually update this page.
Magna Charge (Tech) – This character sports a large horseshoe shaped magnet on his head which can actually pick up objects in the game and throw them around. Additionally, his top half has a powerful energy weapon that can shoot bolts of energy at his enemies. Magna Charge’s bottom half features an energy propelled speed wheel which makes this character extremely fast and mobile.
Wash Buckler (Water) – Leave it to Vicarious Visions to create a pirate octopus character. Wash Buckler’s top half features a cutting cutlass attack and an awesome bubble gun which can suspend his enemies in the air only to finish them off with a powerful slash of his mighty cutlass.
His bottom half actually features the tentacles of an octopus and can utilize ink attacks as well as an insane climbing ability.
Blast Zone (Fire) – This bold new toy is pretty well armored and should be an instant fan favorite amongst kids and collectors.
Blast Zone throws damage inducing bombs as well as being able to breathe fire on his enemies. Using his powerful rocket powered legs, his charge attack is certainly lethal.
All New Core Skylanders Characters
Thus far, two new core figures have been announced.
Rollerbrawl (Undead) – This creative new character zooms around on rocking roller blades which makes her extremely mobile. In addition to her awesome claw attack she can actually sling her blades at her enemies causing some serious damage in the process.
Countdown – This cool character may just be my personal favorite thus far. He is a bot like Eye Brawl in that he can literally throw his head (which is also a bomb) at anything that gets in his way. I cannot wait to get my hands on this awesome new toy.
Skylanders Swap Force Character Abilities
Based on what I have been able to learn, the series 3 figures will have a different Wow Pow than they previously had in Skylanders Giants. Furthermore, every figure, from any of the Skylanders video games, will now have the ability to jump.
As soon as these figures come out I will start posting videos which demonstrate these new abilities.
Skylanders Swap Force Release Date
The final bit of information you may be wondering is when is Swap Force coming out. Thus far, all I have been able to determine is that the Swap Force release date will be sometime in the fall of 2013.
With all of the new characters, in game quests, and special powers and abilities that will be found in this game I am absolutely certain this will be among the top five most popular games of the year.
